Liffey Cable Car (Suas)
Dublin City Centre
McGarry Ní Éanaigh Architects
This proposal - to place an aerial cable car system over the river Liffey in central Dublin is bold. It suggests a vision for Dublin, which harnesses the Liffey corridor both horizontally and vertically. It proposes the strategic placement of a series of tall towers (four) and terminal buildings (two) along an east west route connecting Docklands, Hueston Station, the central city area between and the natural landscape beyond. The primary concerns architecturally are that of form, shape, material, which ultimately lead to the fundamental issue of character. This is of profound importance to an enhanced description of the city at the beginning of the twenty first century and the iconography of Dublin for its citizens and visitors into the future.
